Carpe Librum Bookstore

Carpe Librum Bookstore

Thousands of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs all priced $1 – $4!

Turning the Page has a used bookstore and “pop-up” book sales in Washington, D.C. and Chicago! Carpe Librum (“seize the book“) is the name Turning the Page gives their book selling spaces. All books, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records for sale at Carpe Librum locations are donated by the public and all proceeds go straight to Turning the Page, in support of our programs.

We accept donations of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records of any genre and for all ages (for kids and/or for adults). The few items that we are unable to take into inventory are encyclopedias, magazines or journal publications, text books older than 10 years, and VHS or cassette tapes.

*You can drop off donations in person anytime our bookstore is open- no appointment necessary!

DC Carpe Librum Memberships:

After four wonderful years at our bookstore location at 1030 17th Street NW, Carpe Librum will be moving by December 2017, due to building renovations. Since we turned our pop-up into a full-time location in 2013, we have been thankful for the ever increasing community support, which has enabled Turning the Page to sustain and strengthen our programs engaging Ward 8 public school parents to be more active and effective participants in their children’s education. We have loved being a part of the Farragut community and hope to find a new location within this neighborhood.

Carpe Librum at 17th Street has been made possible by the generosity of the Lenkin Group, which kindly donated the space to us for all these years. We understand that this kind of generosity does not come often, and thus, to stay in the neighborhood, Carpe Librum and Turning the Page expect to incur increased expenses, including rental costs. We are asking you all, our supportive and loyal patrons and friends, to help us offset these costs. We are offering Carpe Librum memberships to all customers. Purchase a $50 gift card, redeemable for $60 worth of merchandise, or purchase a $100 gift card, redeemable for $120 worth of merchandise. Your gift card never expires, and you will still be considered a Carpe Librum member, even after you spend your gift card in full. Carpe Librum members will also be invited to flash sales and private deals, not otherwise available to the public.

By adopting this form of crowd-funding, Carpe Librum will be in a much stronger position to ensure that the majority of our book-sales go directly into our school-based programs as we transition to a new bookstore location. We thank you all for the support you’ve provided over the years, and we ask that you continue that support by becoming a Carpe Librum member today! You can purchase your membership in our store or online. To sign-up for a membership online, please click on the green Donate Now button in the upper right hand corner of this page and make a donation of $50 or $100. In the comment line, please type “Membership” before submitting. We’ll have a membership card waiting for you on your next visit to 1030 17th Street NW! Thank you!”
