Summer Learning

Learning shouldn’t stop when school is out of session! During the summer months, Turning the Page partners with local museums and other cultural sites to host a series of innovative Saturday and evening field trips that connect families to Washington, DC and Chicago’s many resources. Using the cities themselves as classrooms, these education field trips help combat summer learning loss and also provide opportunities for families to experience fun and often unique activities around these beautiful cities, regardless of income or home neighborhood.

Turning the Page has conducted more than 80 summer trips since launching this program in 2001.

For the summer of 2021, we created programming to engage TTP families in a comprehensive, accessible, and exciting summer challenge! From the end of June through Mid-August, families in our partner schools worked towards completing a Summer Learning Adventure checklist with activities including Digital Hub challenges, museum visits, Mobile Meetings, visiting a library, and other learning activities. Along with their activity card, families received a book packet to encourage reading in the summer months and activity guides for each possible activity. This new Summer Learning Adventure will provide more flexibility for families, be easier to adhere to local health and safety guidelines, and allow TTP to continue to strengthen partnerships with organizations ahead of the new school year.
