Family Spotlight: Meet Pam, Jerome, Jawan and Derrion

After Pam and Jerome attended their first Community Night, they were hooked! Bringing their sons Jawan and Derrion with them, Pam enjoys learning new things. “Every time I come to Community Night I learn something new,” she adds. “It’s information that I pass on to my children and to other parents at the school.” Attending Community Night has also been a way for Pam and her family to meet new people. Calling out to parents that she recently met, she later explains, “We meet families and learn their names; we also let other parents know about the wonderful events that Turning the Page offers.”

Pam and her family’s favorite moment was when author Candace Fleming and illustrator Eric Rohmann visited during a fall Community Night at her sons’ school to share their book, Oh, No! and lead an activity where the students illustrated their own story.

For Pam’s family one of the most memorable experiences was participating in the Parent Leadership Conference, where parents from TTP-partnering schools came together to explore their leadership styles and even examine school data. “The Parent Leadership Conference,” Pam mentions, “was a nice experience, and the information on [school] scoring was important—something I didn’t know.”

“It is a great honor to have Turning the Page at our school,” Pam says.
