Recent Turning the Page program events include…
- Turning the Page’s 2014 Summer Learning trips included a visit to Common Good City Farm, where families learned about healthy eating choices and helped tend the harvest, and to the local Anacostia River, with a fun and educational tour by the Anacostia River Watershed Society.
- On October 22nd, middle school families from Turning the Page partner schools were welcomed at The George Washington University for a special College Night event, which included a tour of campus as well as informational sessions with representatives from GW, NOVA Community College, and Howard University. Families had the chance to ask questions of college staff and students alike about everything from financial aid, to preparing for college in high school, to choosing majors. As one middle school student expressed after the event, “I learned that college is cool, you just need to know what to do.”
- Turning the Page Community Nights and Author Visits at each of our partner schools this fall have already engaged many parents in best supporting their children’s learning both at home and at school and renowned children’s book authors have shared their inspirations and work process with families. We’ve also distributed over 1,000 children’s books in just the last few months for families’ home libraries.
