Announcing Turning the Page’s 9th Annual Gala: October 23, 2015
Please join Turning the Page staff, volunteers, supporters, and program participants as we celebrate our work and raise funds for the year ahead at TTP’s 9th Annual Gala. The 2015 gala will be held 6pm – 9pm on Friday, October 23rd at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery (702 8th St, NW, Washington, DC 20068). Gala attendees will be treated to live music, an open bar, delicious bites to eat, and will have access to the extensive silent auction. TTP’s silent auction is well-known for its eclectic mix of items, including popular restaurant gift certificates, tickets to area events and museums, winery tours, sports memorabilia, and more!
Live music will be back by popular demand! We look forward to the excitement of Exclusive Report Jazz Group, who have performed at several of TTP’s past galas. A DC native, band leader Keith A. Mathis has over 30 years of musical performing experience with his indelible trumpet, sharing the stage and opening for numerous well-known artists including Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and Patti Labelle. And the Exclusive Report Jazz Group has performed everywhere from The Kennedy Center to Disneyworld! Don’t miss this chance to see the Exclusive Report Jazz Group in action.
At the event, Turning the Page will also award the annual Buffy Atkins Memorial Award for Excellence in Parent Leadership to an exemplary Parent Leader within Turning the Page’s D.C. programs. The award is named for Buffy Atkins, who passed away in March 2007. Ms. Atkins was the mother of seven adopted children, including Tyler Atkins, an AmeriCorps*VISTA member with Turning the Page in 2003-2004. The 2014 Buffy Atkins Memorial Award for Excellence in Parent Leadership was presented to TTP Parent Leader Fahim Shabazz, the father of two. TTP staff and program participants continue to be inspired by Mr. Shabazz’s dedication as both a father and a leader in his Ward 8 school community.
Tickets for the 2015 gala range from $50 (for young professionals age 30 or younger) to $75 (for professionals age 31+) and can be securely purchased via Brown Paper Tickets at http://ttpdc2015gala.brownpapertickets.com or via check made out to Turning the Page and mailed to TTP’s office at 1625 K St, NW, Suite 102, Washington, DC 20006.
