Kara Winerman holds an M.A. in Teaching and an M.A. in Gender and Cultural Studies from Simmons University, as well as a B.A. in International Studies from American University. Over the past 20 years, she has dedicated her career to expanding educational opportunities for diverse student populations, and she has developed culturally responsive curricula for a range of social studies and humanities courses. Kara has taught in K-12 schools across Ohio, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., Guatemala, and Costa Rica, and she is bilingual in English and Spanish. Beyond the classroom, Kara has led professional development for educators on a number of topics, including designing experiential lessons in museum and cultural spaces and interdisciplinary and inclusive learning strategies. Passionate about education’s role in empowering communities, she has guided students through service-learning and advocacy projects, helping them apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. As Director of Programs at Turning the Page, Kara is excited to leverage her expertise to strengthen family engagement, enhance community partnerships, and create meaningful learning experiences that support student success.
