Mobile Meetings

There is an unprecedented demand on parents, and Turning the Page is uniquely situated to engage personally with a vast network of parents from all of our partner schools: we have formed in-person relationships and have built trust over time. According to a May 2020 report from Learning Heroes, 80% of parents say phone calls are the most effective way to communicate with them. But only 26% of parents have reported receiving these phone calls.

To help stay connected with parents, our groundbreaking initiative First & Forever parent-partnering program has transitioned to a phone-based model called Mobile Meetings. Mobile Meetings are a unique model of parental support in which our facilitators assist parents in identifying resources to support their children’s at-home learning, make plans to build effective relationships with teachers, and create predictable structures and routines for students which are proven to be essential for them to thrive and succeed. TTP staff checked in with a parent who was struggling with routines and finding ways to support their student, who wasn’t as focused while learning from home. The parent responded, “So we’ve gotten more into a routine, and he seems more eagerly engaged than before which is nice. Thanks for your tips… I appreciate your commitment to making sure I have everything I need to help my son grow academically, as I’m sure the other parents are. I always enjoy our chats…You and TTP have always been a healthy distraction from the monotony of my days…”

One parent said she was recently laid off and started working for UberEats. She is struggling with dedicating time to at-home learning with her inconsistent schedule. TTP sent audiobooks/lessons for her and her son to listen to in the car when she is working. She said, “I really appreciate talking to you as I have been so overwhelmed.”

“I have been sick. I was in the hospital. It was a lot going on. We are playing catch up on everything. I sit with her 10-12 every day on Zoom. You are wonderful. You have the kindest words of encouragement and…it means so much that I can just call you up.”

“I’ve heard from their teacher, who is great, but it means a lot that you called to ask how I’M doing in all of this. You all are really special.”

“I think you guys are doing awesome because you started at the beginning where the teachers kind of came a little after. Your resources were right at the beginning of the closure, so keeping us in tune, keeping up with what kids can do differently, so I really think you guys did an awesome job starting as early as you did — where the school system kind of fell a little behind and then caught up with things that the kids can do.”
